SPAULDING PATIENT EXPERIENCE

Materials & Methods was asked to investigate and present opportunities for using technology to enhance patients’ overall experience at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Our creative development team worked closely with hospital administrators, therapists, doctors, patients, and their families to explore these opportunities.

Upon leaving Spaulding, this communication platform would empower patients and families with resources for ongoing out-patient and at-home care. Other proposals included the use of iPads equipped with special applications and sensing devices that enable gaze tracking and voice control to allow physically and cognitively impaired patients to access in-room entertainment systems, the internet, their friends and family, as well as existing social media outlets.

Working in partnership with Apple’s Development team, we ultimately proposed an integrated communication platform that utilizes readily available mobile technologies, applications, and social media networks to better connect patients and families to doctors, treatment plans, and hospital resources, as well as each other. Upon leaving Spaulding, this communication platform would empower patients and families with resources for ongoing out-patient and at-home care.
